naps
I love them. Especially when I'm kind of sick. That is all. | | Friday, July 11th, 2008 | | 7:56 am |
general idiocy
I just discovered that I can plug my iPod into my old school car stereo. I don't know if this is a great discovery, or if I'm an idiot for not figuring this out, oh, three years ago when I got an iPod. | | Thursday, June 26th, 2008 | | 11:41 am |
MHC
Also, in case you were wondering, the new dorm is HUGE. It looks nice. But it's definitely the biggest dorm now. | | Sunday, June 17th, 2007 | | 9:45 am |
berry good
Yesterday, little_turkey and I went to pick our own strawberries. We're both members of the same CSA, and as part of our share, we get 10 pints each. All in all, a great trip to the Valley. Excellent vegan pad thai in Amherst. Then we launched ourselves into a crazy strawberry patch. The berries were all perfectly ripe. It was kind of insane. (Also, we picked some peas.) We got in the car just as the storm clouds started rolling in. Then, I of course got us lost on the way home, but that's not really surprising. little_turkey was a good sport about it. I don't know if you know this, but ten pints is a lot of strawberries. Thankfully, five of mine are going to my friend Judy, who's splitting the share with me. But as of now, two pints have been cut up, one is being frozen, and two are kind of...hanging out. All of Judy's are awaiting my delivery to her later this afternoon. I never thought I would be overwhelmed by strawberries, but I kind of am. Current Music: Oliver Mtukudzi | | Wednesday, March 28th, 2007 | | 10:47 am |

and suddenly
I am kind of freaking out about all the things I have to do at work. It's not like any of them actually *matter.* It's just that I have to do about five hundred of them in a specific order. In other news, our apartment cracks me up. Jeff, our downstairs neighbor, took us to look at a "free stove" the other night. (Which we rejected due to rust issues and laziness. No one wanted to carry that behemoth upstairs.) I think that rigela has kind of a crush on him now--they really bonded over the University of Iowa. | | Friday, August 4th, 2006 | | 1:27 pm |
After-life
Sometimes I wonder if, in some sort of afterlife, we have to live all the lives that we didn't live. You know, that time you decided to have the chocolate ice cream cone instead of the vanilla because it wasn't "life-altering?" Well, maybe it was, and maybe you'll find out when you live that permutation. And then, heck, since it's eternity, why no throw in all the lives of the people you impact? Ever what what the homeless guy did with that quarter you gave him? Find out, in eternity. And since there'll still be infinite time left, you'll still have plenty of time to kick it with the big JC, if that's your thing. | | Thursday, August 3rd, 2006 | | 9:41 am |
pesto
So, for some reason I got it into my head that I had to make pesto last night. Which would have been quick and easy. Except that I forgot that I have yet to locate the blade for my food processor in the unpacking process. So I think, "okay, no problem, the cookbook has a recipe for the 'mortar method.'" (Don't even go there.) Only one slight problem with this: I don't even actually *own* a mortar and pestal. My ad hoc solution was to use a metal mixing bowl and the ice cream scoop. ( rigela, I don't think this process at all damaged the scoop, but feel free to inspect.) This process generated several realizations, including, but not limited to, the fact that there are some things that rock is probably better suited to than pressed metal, and that frozen pine nuts are in fact more difficult to smoosh. The real epiphany was that it is actually possible to over cook pasta. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the queen of al dente or anything, but the violent pesto method took a little longer than I was anticipating, so I thought, "I'll just leave the pasta on the stove. What could really happen?" Well, it turns out that it gets kind of rubbery and sticks together. And that was my Julia Child moment of the evening. Or Mario Batali. Whatever. | | Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006 | | 9:16 am |
hot
Well, as with the rest of the world, I am extremely hot. However, last night I was hot and productive. Things I accomplished (AKA, Sandy gives herself a pat on the back via LJ) include: -Putting our names on the mailbox, per request of mail lady. (No, I didn't meet her, but if a man has that handwriting, I'll need tos eriously reevaluate my gender assumptions.) -Buying lots of random crap I needed at the harware store -Buying a sponge and trash bags at CVS -Testing the grounded outlets in our apartment and discovering that they are in fact actually grounded, leading me to question why our landlord didn't convert ALL the outlets to GFCI. -Using a serious number of extension cords to plug things into the one grounded outlet in my room. -Doing a massive scrub-out of the tub with CLR. The good news is that the tub is no longer as actively disgusting. The bad news is that part 2 of the scrub-out will need to occur tonight. -As I discovered it was trash day, I located the trash can and recycling bin and took out a substantial (not that anyone would notice by the state of our apartment) amount of trash and recycling. I also discovered in this process that I don't have any keys that work in the back door. Interesting. -Doing the dishes. -Hooking up the TV and DVD in a fake way that will work until I get motivated to bundle cords. (This was urgent.) -Extremely minor amounts of actual unpacking. Ah, moving. | | Monday, July 31st, 2006 | | 9:23 am |
we survived
Well, we moved. I think the only thing we left in the old apartment by accident is my pizza stone, which is kind of depressing for me, and which I will attempt to rescue this afternoon in what I imagine to be a Mission: Impossible-esque manner. So, many hours of packing, 6 movers, 2 cars, one (fairly minor) car accident, several hundred dollars, one fight, and two parents on the verge of heat stroke later, we now live in JP. Also, the wedding of lydabeth was so fabulous. They had the most delicious cake. (The ceremony and stuff was nice too.) | | Wednesday, July 19th, 2006 | | 10:48 am |
sadness
I had a moment today when I realized that there will be no more Tim Gunn impersonations on Project Runway. Santino is gone. So sad. He annoyed the crap out of me, but now I want him back. | | Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 | | 9:44 am |
Excited / Not Excited
Things I am excited about: 1. Moving 2. Attending the wedding of lydabeth3. Going to the LL Bean store! 4. Red Sox game with rigelaThings I am not excited about: 1. Girlfriend joining Peace Corps The net here would seem to be excitement. And yet that is somehow not the case in the actual world. Which is not to say that I'm a mopey depression-ball or anything. It's merely a statement on how list-making is not the panacea for life problems that it seems to be in my head. | | Friday, June 30th, 2006 | | 11:02 am |
I'm ridiculous. And people know it.
So, for, I don't know, most of my life, I've known I'm a little ridiculous. One of the symptoms of my ridiculousness is that I'm incapable of knowing what template I'm supposed to use when making new pages on the MBS website. Over the last few months, John, our webmaster, has been trying to tell me what template to use. I inevitably fail to remember. Process repeat. So he just emailed me again (from his mother-in-law's death bed, no less) to say that he made a new template for me. And what file extension did he give it? SandyUseThisOne.html I don't know what's worse. The fact that I actually am ridiculous, or the fact that people know it. | | Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 | | 3:54 pm |
32..
Is anyone else a little annoyed that people are giving the Kings shit about selling the MLK archives for $32 million, but no one bats an eyelash that society allowed Warren Buffet to acquire over $32 *billion* for doing something much less meaningful? | | Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 | | 9:38 am |
New Realization
It has just occurred to me that the weekend after Gretchen leaves for the Peace Corps, I will be doing several things, including: a) attending the wedding of lydabethand b) moving At least I won't be bored? Logistics on this forthcoming. | | Monday, June 12th, 2006 | | 9:29 am |
Still Tickin'
Not too much going on, but here are some highlights: 1. rigela and I are kind of looking for a new apartment. "Kind of" in the sense that we are looking but have yet to actually *see* anything. 2. Went down to the parents' for the weekend, including the hilarious "Opening Cocktail Party" at their beach. That's right, friends, the snack bar is open for the summer!! 3. In addition to the normal showering of gifts from the mom, I have instructed her to purchase an Adirondack chair for me to lounge in. I know I shouldn't encourage the buying of my love in the way, but it's just so irresistable sometimes. 4. I'm reading the book version of the "Julie/Julia Project," which is ridiculously hilarious. It actually caused me to snort on the train. I highly recommend for people who have tried to cook and failed at any point in their lives. 5. Someone has expressed serious interest in setting up at church!! Like, as in, almost every week!! Jenny Moye is my new favorite person. 6. I'm giving the newsletter to the printer today. I have steeled myself for the inevitable typos. | | Wednesday, May 24th, 2006 | | 9:49 am |
I also appear to have some sort of bug bite on the middle finger of my left hand, which is kind of annoying. |
